TIPOTECA

Tipoteca Italiana is a place devoted to type and printing. Established in 1995 by the Antiga brothers, the foundation is based in Cornuda, a small town of Veneto in the province of Treviso. In 2002, the Tipoteca foundation opened the Type and Printing Museum to the public.

Visitors are invited to walk through the casting, typesetting, printing and restoration workshops and the classroom, enjoying the display of typefaces and printing machinery. Documents and experiences tell the tale of typography. To discover who devised the constellation of letters and signs that gives the universe of typography its varied and perpetual motion, we must focus on type design. Part of the museum is the realm of the type designers, graphic artists, printers and literati, who determined the shapes of typefaces that have embodied the visual culture of entire generations of Italians. Italy has thus made a fundamental contribution to the history of typeface; a rich graphic tradition from the past that remains a cultural standard for today.
